Ladies of Fado ( As Senhoras do Fado) is the newest addition I've made to my music collection. It's an absolute gem and should be a part of your music collection as well, in my humble opinion. Every song on this album is beautiful and passionate. It's one of those albums that you can put on, sit down and listen to all the way through. Ladies of Fado is an anthology album of songs created, sung and recorded between 1925 and 1945. My favorite song on this album is the first one, Fado Menhor, sung by Maria Teresa de Noronha. With a simple, deeply sad melody and Maria's gentle, melancholic voice this song captured me instantly. But this album is full of great songs sung by the greatest fado singers of the twentieth century. Songs by Amalia Rodrigues - whom you've heard on the show before - and Ermelinda Vitoria.
You can preview the entire album in the player to the right. Much of the music displayed here on the blog, or in my podcast shows are brought to you by Calabash Music, one of the best music sites on the web. Period. If you've arrived here and you've never heard the podcast before - and you like tango and tango related music, subscribe to the show!
